Purpose of Teams

Our middle grades program is designed to promote experiences that support students to become academically excellent, able to navigate their world and be prepared for college and careers that are in their future.

  • Academically Excellent- challenging all students with robust curriculum, engaging instruction, assessment, and supports to meet rigorous standards.

  • Cultural, Social and Developmental Responsive - creating learning teams of adults and students that foster respectful relationships to support the intellectual, social, and ethical growth of our students.

  • College and Career Ready - providing a variety of experiences that encourage students to begin to look to their future to explore various career options, including Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) jobs, and the preparation necessary to produce high quality work and achieve success in the world of college and work.

To facilitate our work each grade level is divided into two identical teams a Blue Team and a White Team (our Senator School colors). Adults and students are grouped into smaller communities on teams for enhanced teaching and learning. The team is the foundation for a strong learning community characterized by a sense of family.  Core subjects of language arts, mathematics, science and social studies are taught on the team. Students and teachers on the team become well acquainted, feel safe, respected, and supported, and are encouraged to take intellectual risks. Teachers on teams take advantage of opportunities to vary the use of time, space, staff, and grouping arrangements to achieve success for every student.  Academic Supports and extensions for students who demonstrate the need for further challenge are typically delivered on the team.

Our program of study provides students with a variety of fine and practical arts, career, and technology focused courses.  We call these areas of study “related arts” and teachers who teach related arts serve each grade level team.

We value family partnerships and in order to support your child through this important developmental stage, the partnership between home and school cannot be understated. The team structure provides a “one stop” contact for families to communicate with school.  While families may contact individual teachers we have established the contact for our team:_____________________________________.
